You’ve seen him at an art event, a community event, a music performance, a dance performance and at every restaraurant and store in Long Beach, “the man with the camera”.
Richard Shimizu, a Long Beach native, retired from a long career for the phone company in 2010. One day his cousin Donna asked him for information on the Arts District, then he realized “There’s an Arts District?”. That led to Richard meeting Lisa at Creative Reuse, Tres from Pacific Wind and Maggie from Hellada … each introduction lead to others.
One day he started documenting the businesses he supported, the people he met, Long Beach architecture and beauty with photos he posted to social media to what has grown to be a huge library of Long Beach culture.
These days you can’t go to many events in town without seeing Richard and his camera(s).
This show is a tribute to Richard for his continued support and promotion, we call it “A Long Beach Love Story”.
For 1 month only, come see a display of Richards photos spanning from 2012 to present. **Show runs February 12 – March 11
